so far I'm quite satisfied with my new drill. For what I do its got plenty of power and remains light
Chuck will loosen sometimes, however. I can use it all day without fatigue, the batteries last a long time and are quick to recharge. I bought this drill last year when I started a house renovation, and now I am into two more renos. This thing is incredibly powerful for its weight.
With two batteries, I'd be hard pressed to ever run out of juice. This drill feels good in the hand, size, balance and weight. LithiumIon will hold a charge for much longer and their useful life is much longer. I imagine a professional with heavy duty needs would want a drill meant for that kind of use with bigger/heavier batteries. Hitachi gets deeply discounted several times a year where others are not. I have had a Makita 9.6v for years.
Nicads are miserable in this aspect. Plenty of torque for all a 3/8 drill is meant to do. Excellent drill but nicad batteries were the weak spot. If you wait and watch for the sales you can get a great deal. Oh, it has a 5 year warranty too. As a home owner, I only use it occasionally and of course want it ready to go when needed.
Makita and others are very pricey compared to Hitachi (for my needs).
I have had this drill for about 4 months now, I like using it, but when I try and use a bit that does have flat sides, ie a smaller than 1/4 it is impossible to get the chuck tight enough to properly hold the bit.Other than that it is a good product.
Its going to be hard for my other five drills to get my attention. Don't take this tool to be more than it is; a 3/8in medium duty drill driver, but it is a featherweight delight to use. I have driven #4 screws into oak with very steady positive control, and drilled sizable holes in a concrete wall to receive anchors.
